Knit Along

Sabai Top Knit-a-Long

$0.00

Thursdays July 11 - August 1 at 3PM

Join Liza this summer to knit the sweet, summery Sabai Top by Susanne Müller. We'll meet Thursdays at 3 during our Sit+Knit session in the shop. This lovely knit calls for a DK weight yarn... we have lots of choices in the shop; call or come in for help finding yours before we start. Take a look at Luma - we think it's an excellent choice.

Knit-a-longs are gatherings where we knit the same project at the same time. We share tips and stories and encouragement, and have fun working alongside each other. They are unfacilitated by Maker+Stitch, but we have help punch cards available if help is needed!  You can join us from afar too (though we won't have e-meet available) by sharing your pics with us through email or instagram @makerandstitch. We will share your progress on Instagram and cheer you along.

Here are the details about Sabai from Ravelry:

The SABAI top is a light and airy summer top with a boat neckline. It is super easy to knit, requires only a few techniques and is therefore ideal for beginners. In addition to the SABAI Top No. 1 with ribbed borders, there is also a second, completely in stockinette stitch, knit version - the SABAI Top No. 2.

The SABAI Top No. 1 is worked seamlessly top down. First, the neckline border is worked in the round in a 1/1 rib stitch pattern and increases are worked for the slanted shoulders. For the armholes, front and back parts are worked separately back and forth. The stitches of front and back are then joined and worked in the round again. The top ends with a narrow ribbed border with a rolled edge. As the top is knitted from the top down, it is possible (and advisable) to try it on while knitting so that the length can be individually adjusted.

Techniques used: left- and right leaning knitted and purled increases.

Sizes
XS (S) M (L) XL (XXL)

To fit chest circumference:
30-32 (33-35) 36-38 (38-42) 43-46 (47-50)” / 74-81 (82-89) 90-97 (98-107) 108-117 (118-127) cm

Measurements
Chest circumference:
33.4 (35.8) 39 (42.9) 47.6 (51.6)”  / 85 (91) 99 (109) 121 (131) cm
Total length:
18.5 (19.3) 20.1 (21.3) 22.4 (23.6)” / 47 (49) 51 (54) 57 (60) cm
Armhole depth:
8.3 (8.7) 8.7 (9.1) 9.5 (9.8)” / 21 (22) 22 (23) 24 (25) cm

The top can be worn snug with approx. 0 – 0.8” positive ease, but also works well with a little more room to move 2 – 3.2” positive ease. For example, if you have a chest circumference of 35.4”, you should choose between size S and M.

Yarn
200 (250) 250 (300) 350 (400) g that has 110-115 meters/ 122-130 yards in 50 g

Tips for yarn choices
Several yarn qualities are recommended in the instructions: a summery cotton-linen mix makes the top loose and flowing.
A wool or alpaca blend makes the top a bit more structured because the yarn will tend to bloom and fill in when blocked.

Needles
20 – 24” and 32 – 40” circular needles size  US 6.

Gauge / Tension
In stockinette stitch using needle size US 6: 20 stitches x 28 rows = 4” square
The swatches were washed and measured lying flat. Please adjust needle size if necessary, to obtain correct gauge.

Notions
Tapestry needle, stitch markers
