Summer 2020 Hiking and Knitting Retreat with Mary Anne Benedetto
We are already looking forward to our 2020 hiking and knitting retreat! Join us as we experience the high Colorado Rockies -- knitting, hiking, and taking in rugged mountain vistas and glorious wildflowers. We will spend two days and nights learning and relaxing at the cozy Shrine Mountain Huts, part of the famous 10th Mountain Division Hut System.
This year we are thrilled that Mary Anne Benedetto of Apriori Knits will be joining us. The first day Mary Anne will teach cabling, stitch design, and finishing techniques. On day two, she will share methods to modify your patterns to fit your your body. We're especially excited that Mary Anne will design a sweater exclusively for us using Hudson + West Co yarn, our favorite new 100% American wool. Expect a soft, texture rich sweater you will cherish as an heirloom for years to come. In order to get the most out of our retreat we recommend our attendees have the beginning of a sweater project on their needles during the retreat. You will have Mary Anne’s exclusive Maker+Stitch pattern in time for the retreat should you choose to have it on your needles during the retreat. Our only requirement is that you consider buying your yarn from us, whatever pattern you choose.
Retreat Details: For those coming from afar, the retreat begins with your comfortable stay at the Inn at Riverwalk in Edwards, Colorado Tuesday, July 21st. Dinner that evening and breakfast on Wednesday morning are on your own -- there are many fun, delicious restaurants within very easy walking distance. We will gather at the Inn at 10AM on Wednesday morning, which is when our local guests will join us. From here, we will drive up to the top of Vail Pass, where we will depart on a leisurely 2.7 mile hike to the hut. Llamas will hike with us, carrying most of our gear! We'll enjoy a well-earned lunch at the hut while we acclimate and relax.
That afternoon we will enjoy our first session with Mary Anne.
Wednesday evening is for exploring, relaxing, eating a home-cooked dinner, a sauna if you choose, and enjoying each other's company around the campfire. With a clear night, star gazing will be a highlight!
Thursday we'll wake up to a casual breakfast, then head out on a hike on Shrine Pass through wildflowers and incredible high mountain vistas. We plan to hike 3-4 miles and we will eat a picnic lunch on the trail.
When we arrive back to the huts. Mary Anne will teach us her best techniques for modifying patterns to fit your sweater to your body. Again, we'll spend the evening knitting, dining at the hut, and relaxing around the campfire.
Friday we wake up to another tasty breakfast, then pack to head down the trail to our ride back to Edwards. We will arrive back at the Inn by 1PM. Lunch is on your own, and the afternoon is free to rest, relax by the pool, explore, or shop at Riverwalk's many boutiques. We will meet to celebrate at 5PM at Maker+Stitch, then dinner is on your own. For locals, this is where the retreat ends. For visitors, you have lodging at the Inn Friday night so there is no rush to depart Friday afternoon!
Important: For those traveling from afar, we ask that you fly in by Tuesday, July 21st to acclimate to the altitude. Edwards is at 7200 feet and the hut is over 10,000 feet above sea level. To get here, you will fly into Denver or Eagle and either rent a car or take a Colorado Mountain Express van. It is not a difficult drive but we are two hours and 15 minutes from the Denver airport. We will have rooms blocked for you at the Inn at Riverwalk in Edwards Tuesday and Friday nights.
Please feel free to contact us at email@example.com with any questions! We are excited to hike, knit, and learn the best cabling techniques with you!
3 variants are listed: one without Tuesday 7/21 or Friday 7/24 lodging, one with double occupancy Tuesday and Friday nights, and one with single occupancy Tuesday and Friday nights.
Accommodations at the Inn at Riverwalk are double occupancy. Please indicate single occupancy for the Inn at Riverwalk (with an added charge) if you desire.
Accommodations at Jay's Cabin are double and communal occupancy. If you are not comfortable sleeping in a room with others, this retreat may not be for you. The hut does have hot and cold running water, two indoor bathrooms with flush toilets, one with shower, one with bathtub. There is running, potable water at the cabin. There is a communal, wood-fired sauna located between Jay's Cabin and Chuck's Cabin.
