It’s a scarf, it’s a cowl, it’s Bracken by Irina Anikeeva. Starting from a central provisional cast on, this convertible scarf is constructed in the round with perfect symmetry. Find three buttons to complement the geometric motif on each end.
Yarn: Hudson + West Co. Weld (70% US Merino / 30% US Corriedale; 200 yds [183 m]; 1.76 oz. [50g]): MC jam (purple), 4 skeins; CC aspen (natural white), 1 skein.
Sizes:
One size: 14” (35 cm) circumference, 70” (175 cm) length.
Needles:
Size A (stockinette portions of scarf body): US 4 [3.5 mm]: double-pointed needles (DPNs)
Size B (ribbing): US 3 [3.25 mm]: double-pointed needles (DPNs)
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions:
Stitch markers; locking stitch marker; waste yarn; tapestry needle; 3 buttons 3⁄4” (18 mm) in diameter; sewing needle and thread; crochet hook (optional, for provisional cast on).
Gauge:
25 sts and 32 rows = 4” (10 cm) in St st on Size A needles.
25 sts and 30 rows = 4” (10 cm) over colorwork on Size A needles.
