We love this yarn. Colored merino fibers are airspun around a core of nylon. The result is a light, fluffy, very warm fabric, and a cloudy, foamy look in vibrant colors. Kind of like the easy sweaters we wore very day when we were young. This is a great beginner yarn - very forgiving and un-splittable. It can be machine washed on gentle, though we recommend hand washing, so it would be fun and warm for the kids' outer layers.
