Anticipation of Summer

As we write this post, our Vail and Eagle valleys are bursting with green, the apple trees are blossoming, and we’re just starting to feel the summer season here at Maker+Stitch. While it has been the quiet time in our resort town (with the ski mountain closed and summer guests yet to arrive), we’ve been happily working away in the shop. We’ve been thrilled to see so many of our local and Denver clients in here this spring and we thank you for your patronage. During April and May we’ve also been putting finishing touches on projects that will ready us for a super summer. We want to tell what we’ve been up to!

On top of our accomplishment list is our really beautiful (if we do say so ourselves), and easy-to-use, new website. If you are reading this, you are visiting our site right now. We just launched it late last week, and we hope you love it as much as we do.

We are still working hard to put all the shop’s yarns, needles, tools, and maker goods online. You will find a great selection here, and we will continue to make it more robust every day, eventually having nearly everything we carry in Edwards also available from afar. We hope visits to our website will be enjoyable shopping experiences for you! Coming here is also the best way to find and register for all of our classes, gatherings, and retreats. Have fun looking around!

Speaking of our retreats, we’ve just added our second retreat to our 2018 schedule of events! The weekend of September 14th-16th, we will visit Jay’s Cabin, with far-reaching views of Colorado’s vibrant fall colors as they emerge throughout high country.

We will pack in our works-in-progress, soak in the high Rockies autumn beauty, explore Shrine Pass, knit, and put our feet up together. We can’t wait! Take a look and sign up to join us here.

Incidentally, our first retreat, in July, has just a few spots left and we’d love to have you along. It will be a terrific experience both from the natural beauty and also the educational perspectives. Shrine Pass is breathtakingly beautiful -- we think we’ll hit the peak of Colorado’s spectacular wildflowers. Of course we hope for perfect weather to take in the vast snow-capped mountain vistas too.

We are so thrilled to have Andrea Rangel join us to teach her colorwork methods. She’s an avid hiker, outdoor lover, and incredibly accomplished knitter and teacher. We knew when we met her last year that she was the perfect fit for our first retreat! We’re counting the days until we gather and go exploring in the high Rockies. We hope you can make it in July, but if you can’t, there is now the September retreat to add to your schedule.

Finally, we love our selection of lighter-weight spring and summer yarns in the shop and online. Our shop samples inspire us to knit as fast as possible to make one of each of these for ourselves! Here are a few highlights...

Cathryn’s cashmere Ferrous Wrap out of Jade Sapphire Aaah is stunning. We have Aaah in four natural colors, and it is truly sumptuous. It is perfect for your special, airy piece and it worked beautifully for Brooklyn Tweed's Ferrous.

Below, we’ve pulled together a few of our favorite color variations for Shibui's Octave wrap out of their summery Reed, a light, 100% linen, fingering weight yarn. we are pleased to offer both Reed and Octave in the shop and online.

And we can’t wait to slip on our own Azalea tops knit out of Classic Elite’s Villa. We love how sweet and delicate this little pattern is. Our sample makes us want to move Azalea to the top of our knitting wish list. It is a perfect knit with white pants for that fun summer cocktail party. Find the printed Azalea pattern online and in the shop. The medium size will need 4 skeins of Villa or Vail.

Come in to the shop (or the website), find a project, and knit with us. We'll look forward to your visit! For those of you that want to try your hands at sewing in addition to knitting, you should visit sewbroidery for everything about sewing machines.

Maker+Stitch is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, in Edwards, Colorado, close to the resorts of Vail and Beaver Creek.
